Zsombor Csata

Bio:

Zsombor CSATA is a sociologist, Associate Professor at Babeș-Bolyai University, Romania. Besides his tenure at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, he is a part-time research fellow at the Centre for Social Sciences, Institute for Minority Studies in Budapest, and an affiliate research fellow with the Politics of Race and Ethnicity Lab at the University of Texas. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology at BBU, and has had longer periods of study and research at Corvinus University in Budapest, Indiana University (Rézler Fellowship) and the University of Texas (Fulbright Fellowship), as well as shorter stints at Abomey-Calavi University in Benin and the University of Amsterdam.

He has received several awards from UBB for his teaching and research endeavors, and he was recognized with the Arany János Prize and the Bolyai Prize by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He serves as an editor for the social science journals Erdélyi Társadalom (Transylvanian Society) and Studia Sociologia. He held the position of director at the Research Centre on Interethnic Relations for over a decade.

In the last twenty years, he conducted several research projects on ethnicity, entrepreneurship and regional development in Central and Eastern Europe. Lately, his research has focused on the economic aspects of ethnolinguistic diversity and the economics of language. His work has been featured in multiple languages (English, Hungarian, Romanian and French) and in journals such as Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Studies in Comparative International Development, East European Politics, Social Inclusion, Gender and Society, Language Problems and Language Planning, International Journal on Minority and Group Rights, etc.
