Social work

Social work invites you to understand what it means to help people, to discover what is valuable in them and those around them, beyond prejudice, and to find alternative ways to solve the issues they face. Along with academic training, social work provides resources for personal development and practical experience by helping you get involved in the activity of public and private institutions with a social profile.

Objectives

Educating future social workers to the highest level of professionalism through the classical and current theories of socio-human sciences to help them understand the social problems of individuals, families, groups and communities; Training the capacity of future social workers to understand the results of research in the field of social work, to choose the most appropriate intervention programs for their clients and to base their interventions on scientific evidence; Ensuring the professional training of social workers by developing a wide range of skills required by the labour market in public and private social work services; Broadening the knowledge horizon of social workers by helping them understand the connection between societal and individual problems, and the complexity of socio-human issues and the advantages of interdisciplinary knowledge; gaining a transversal knowledge system widely used in various professions in the socio-human field, both in Romania and abroad; Understanding their own role as social workers in assisting vulnerable people and the tools they have in order to work efficiently and in a professional manner in the field of social work, or to mobilize their skills in another professional context. Developing an active civic and professional attitude towards compliance with human rights, the rights of children, minorities, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups that will help them develop a professional attitude with which to support their social, school work integration and to ensure the best quality of life; understanding and applying the values and ethical principles regarding the provision of quality social services, promoting social justice, equal opportunities, non-discrimination, dignity, uniqueness and self-determination, as well as ensuring the necessary resources for a dignified life and personal development. Involvement in activities of prevention, therapy and social reintegration of vulnerable individuals, families and communities.

Acquired competencies

Identification, collection of information, documentation, evaluation and recording of information, analysis, assessment and specific interventions to reduce social risks at individual, family, group, community and societal levels. Development, implementation and evaluation of social work projects, programmes and policies for different vulnerable categories. Development of prevention services and activities, as well as support services provided to beneficiaries within the social work system. Consultancy in accessing community resources for marginal people or social groups, or for people and social groups at risk of social exclusion (institutions, services, benefits). Consultancy and other methods of specialized intervention in an institutional or family environment (hospitals, schools, penitentiaries, drug treatment centres, institutions specialized in social work, etc.) in compliance with the values and principles specific to social work. Communicating and developing a professional relation with beneficiaries and other social actors involved.
