I am a PhD student in Sociology and an Associate Teaching Staff member at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, Babeș-Bolyai University. My academic path is developing at the intersection of Sociology, Social History, and Gerontology, connected by a continuing interest in disability and in the ways it is lived, “defined”, and institutionally shaped across different socio-political contexts.
In my research, I have worked with life histories, archival sources, and personal accounts of work, gender, motherhood, and disability in socialist and post-socialist Romania. I have been particularly interested in how political and institutional environments inscribe, shape, and reconfigure the body and capacity, opportunities for work and creative potential, while also attending to the concrete experiences of people living within these biographies, stories, and “classifications”.
My doctoral research now brings these concerns into Medical Sociology and Oncology. I am interested in what happens when a person already living with a disability becomes a cancer patient and in how autonomy, communication, relationships with healthcare professionals and family members, access to care, and one's relationship with the body are reconfigured throughout the clinical pathway. I approach these experiences through broader questions of dignity, equity, socio-professional participation, rights, and access to clinical services, particularly cancer care, among people with disabilities.
